Log on to the Internet Explorer Home page at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/
and select the download button. You can follow onscreen
instructions from the Microsoft site to complete your download/upgrade.
How do I change the text size in Internet
Explorer?
Choose the View menu option and select Text Size. Choose
either Largest, Larger, Medium (default), Smaller, or Smallest.
Not all text will be affected on some pages, but it should
work for most standard pages.
I want to add and remove toolbar buttons from
internet Explorer, How do I do this?
You can quickly add and remove buttons on the toolbar
by right-clicking the toolbar then clicking Customize. You
can also resize and even reorder your buttons.
I want to use Internet Explorer as an FTP
client, How?
You can also use IE as an FTP client. If you type the
URL of an FTP site into the address bar (be sure to use ftp://
instead of http:// before the URL)and press Enter. If you
need to enter a name and password, select "Login As"
from the File menu and enter a User Name and Password. Once
you're connected to the site, you can drag and drop files
from your hard drive to the site to upload or download files
from the site to your hard drive.
I have just installed a newer version of Internet
Explorer and don't like it, how do I go back to the previous
version?
Launch Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel, select
Microsoft Internet Explorer xxx and Internet Tools, then pick
Restore the Previous Windows Configuration from the next window.
Click OK. IE xxx uninstalls, and the previous version of Explorer
reappears.
I want to disable cookies, How?
If you use Internet Explorer 5, you'll have to take extra
step or two to turn off cookies. To change the cookie settings,
select Tools then Internet Options, then click the Security
tab. Click the Custom Level button at the bottom and scroll
down to Cookies. Under "Allow cookies that are stored
on your computer", check the radio button in front of
Disable or Prompt (use Prompt if youd like to be asked
before cookies can be inserted). Click OK. Click Yes in the
warning dialog box that opens, then OK once again.
I want to save a Webpage for offline viewing.
To save an entire Web page for offline viewing, select
File/Save As, choose a folder for the file, alter the file
name (if required), and from the Save As Type drop-down list
select Web Page, complete (*.htm,*.html). Then click Save.
Anytime you want to view the page again, simply open the file;
it will appear as you saw it on the Web, together with all
its images, sound files etc..
How do I check what version of Internet Explorer

If you're not sure which version of IE you're running,
you can find out easily by selecting About Internet Explorer
from the Help menu. If it says version 5.00.xx, then you're
running IE 5 or later. If it says 4.7x.xx, then you're running
IE 4.
I want to save a favorite site in my favorites,
How?
To Add a Web Page to Your Favorites List:
Click Favorites in the menu bar, and select Add to Favorites.
The Add Favorite dialog box asks whether you want to make
the site available for offline browsing (to view it when you
aren't connected to the Internet), gives you the chance to
rename the link to your liking, and asks you to confirm that
you want to add it to Favorites. Make your selections and
click OK to list the new site in Favorites.
How do I organsie my favorites?
To Organize Your Favorites:
From the menu bar, select Favorites/Organize Favorites.You'll
see a dialog box listing your current bookmarks and offering
several button options:
Create Folder: make a new folder to store bookmarks. Keeping
all your bookmarks grouped into folders by category makes
it easier to see all of them at once when you open your Favorites
list.
Rename: change the name of the highlighted folder
or bookmark.
Move to Folder: opens a list of available folders to which
you can move the highlighted folder or bookmark.
Delete: prompts you to confirm that you want to remove the
highlighted folder or bookmark, then removes it.
I want to remove the headers and footers
when I print data from a Web site.
Choose File, Page Setup. Highlight the header or footer
codes in the Page Setup dialog box and press Delete.
How do I prevent SSL error messages in IE
5.0?
From the Tools menu, click Internet Options
Click Advanced.
Scroll down to Security, click to select Use SSL 2.0, and
Use SSL 3.0.
Click Apply. Click OK.
To connect to the Internet if your modem
is giving you the error "COM PORT ALREADY OPEN"
try the following:
If you have an internal modem, you will need to correctly
shut down your computer for a few seconds and turn it back
on.
If you have an external modem, you will need to correctly
shut down your computer and turn off your modem. Then, turn
your modem on, and finally turn your computer on.
This error is very common if you have a voice modem (one that
can act as an answering machine and/or speakerphone).

How do I enable JavaScript in Internet Explorer
5?
First,from the Tools menu, click Internet Options. Then
from the Security tab, click Custom Level.
The Internet icon is highlighted by default.
In the Security Settings dialog box, scroll to Java permissions,
click to select High safety.
For the following three options: Active scripting, Allow paste
operation via script, and Scripting of Java applets, click
to select Enable.
Click OK.
Click OK.
From the File menu, click Close.
Your browser stores many of its settings. The best way to
ensure that changes take effect is to close the browser completely
and then relaunch it.
